My time: 7:53, two minutes faster than average.

Theme: FRUIT words, found in the ends (the first two and last two letters) of the themed answers.  So for example the Miles Davis album SKETCHES OF SPAIN has skin, RIGHT THIS SECOND has rind, etc.

This theme has plenty of a-peel!  Ha ha!  OH SNAP!

I'm not familiar with the name HAYAO Miyazaki, but I love his movies. He directed Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro, all brilliant animated films.

Being a geography idiot from way back, I had no idea that IRAN is at the southern end of the Caspian Sea.

I knew the KEW Gardens were a thing, but I guess I never bothered to find out that KEW is a distict in Greater London.  It's also home to the Domesday Book, kept in the National Archives at KEW.

I'm not totally sure why "green suits?" is a clue for CFOS.  Is "green" supposed to mean "having to do with money" here?  It's a bit awkward.

"A hyperbola has two" FOCI.  In mathematics, a hyperbola is a type of smooth curve lying in a plane, defined by its geometric properties or by equations for which it is the solution set. A hyperbola has two pieces that are mirror images of each other and resemble two infinite bows, like a double cone meeting at the tips.  It is defined by the distances of any point to two fixed points, or foci, on the plane.

"Big name is food service" is SYSCO, a company I have heard of but don't know much about.

THE WAVES is a 1931 Virginia Woolf novel that takes place on the coast and consists of soliloquies by the six main characters.

I've heard of MOS DEF, but didn't know he was in a duo called Black Star with Talib Kweli.

The Calvin Klein COLOGNE Eternity was launched in 1988 and in 2003 was inducted into the Fragrance Hall of Fame, ha ha.

Previous answer wrap-up (there's quite a few today):

The ARIA hotel and casino in Vegas last appeared on September 7, 2018.

Defense grp. since 1948 the OAS was last seen on September 5, 2018.

TNN's convoluted path to becoming Spike TV was charted on April 16, 2018.

Cambodian cash RIEL was in the blog on September 23.

HATHA yoga, a branch of yoga focusing on physical movement or "force," last appeared on July 1, 2018.

Comcast's subsidiary XFINITY is an internet service provider, and was a clue on July 2, 2018.

Whew, that was a lot of callbacks.  Maybe I ought to remember this stuff better.
